Not Sure What You’ve Done?

Start With an Injury Assessment.

Something hurts. Something doesn’t feel right. Or maybe you’ve picked up an injury and you’re not sure whether you should rest, keep moving or get it treated.

You don’t need to diagnose yourself before coming to Summit.

Our Injury Clinics give you the opportunity to have the problem assessed, understand what may be happening and get clear advice on what you should do next.

Get Clarity Before You Decide What Comes Next

It can be difficult to know what to do when an injury first happens.

Should you rest?

Can you keep exercising?

Will it settle on its own?

Do you need physiotherapy?

Our Injury Clinics are designed to help answer those questions.

Your clinician will listen to what happened, carry out an appropriate physical assessment and explain what they find. From there, we can discuss the most suitable next step for you. Summit’s injury-clinic pathway begins with an initial consultation and physical assessment before agreeing what support, advice or treatment is appropriate.

What Can We Assess?

You don’t need to arrive knowing the name of your injury.

We can assess a range of musculoskeletal and activity-related problems, including:

Back Pain

From sudden episodes to pain that has persisted for months.

Neck Pain

Assessment and rehabilitation for neck pain, stiffness and movement problems.

Sciatica

Support for symptoms involving pain or irritation travelling from the lower back into the leg.

Knee Pain

From everyday discomfort to running, sporting and post-operative knee problems.

Shoulder Pain

Assessment of shoulder pain, weakness and restricted movement.

Hip Pain

Help understanding and managing pain around the hip and surrounding areas.

Sports Injuries

Structured rehabilitation to help you return to training and competition.

Post-Operative Recovery

Progressive rehabilitation following surgery.

When Should I Book an Injury Clinic?

An injury assessment can be a useful starting point if:

  • Something has started hurting after exercise or sport
  • You’ve twisted, pulled or strained something
  • Movement suddenly feels different
  • You’re not sure how serious an injury is
  • You don’t know whether you should continue training
  • You’ve tried resting but the problem hasn’t settled
  • You keep experiencing the same problem
  • You want professional advice before returning to activity
  • You simply don’t know which Summit service you should book

The purpose is to give you clarity, rather than leaving you guessing.

What Happens at Your Injury Assessment?

Your appointment starts with understanding exactly what has happened.

We Listen

We’ll discuss:

  • How the problem started
  • Where you feel your symptoms
  • What movements affect it
  • Previous injuries
  • Your activity or sport
  • Relevant medical history
  • What you want to get back to
We Assess

Your clinician will carry out a physical assessment appropriate to your symptoms.

Depending on the problem, this may include looking at:

  • Movement
  • Strength
  • Mobility
  • Balance
  • Muscle function
  • Joint movement
  • Functional movements
  • Relevant sport or activity-specific tasks
We Explain

We’ll talk you through what we find and what we believe may be contributing to the problem.

The aim is for you to leave understanding more about your injury than when you arrived.

We Create a Plan

That may be:

  • Advice and self-management
  • A home exercise programme
  • Physiotherapy
  • A period of rehabilitation
  • Modification of activity
  • Further assessment
  • Another Summit service
  • Referral elsewhere if that would be more appropriate

If Treatment Is Needed

If your injury would benefit from further physiotherapy, we can build a personalised plan around what you need.

That may include:

Manual Therapy

Hands-on techniques may be used where appropriate to help with symptoms or movement.

Exercise Rehabilitation

Targeted exercises designed to restore movement, strength and control.

Strengthening

Progressively rebuilding the physical capacity needed for everyday activity or sport.

Mobility Work

Working on relevant restrictions where movement has been affected.

Activity Advice

Helping you understand what you can continue doing and what may need to be adjusted temporarily.

Home Exercise Programme

Exercises can be provided for you to continue between appointments, helping you play an active role in your recovery. Summit’s injury-clinic approach combines treatment with home exercise and self-management advice where appropriate.

Injury Clinic or Sports Injury Physiotherapy?

There’s also some crossover with our Sports Injuries service.

Choose Injury Clinic if:

  • The problem has just happened
  • You don’t know what you’ve injured
  • You mainly want it assessed
  • You want advice on what to do next

Choose Sports Injury Physiotherapy if:

  • You have an established sports injury
  • You already know rehabilitation is needed
  • You’re returning from injury
  • You need a progressive route back to sport

Injury Clinic FAQs

No.

That is exactly what the Injury Clinic is designed for.

You can come to us knowing only where it hurts or what happened, and we’ll assess the problem and explain what we find.

You don’t necessarily need to wait several weeks.

If you’re unsure what you’ve injured or what you should be doing, an early assessment can help give you clarity.

That depends on what we find.

The priority is first understanding the problem. Where appropriate, treatment or rehabilitation advice may then begin.

Where useful, you may be given exercises to continue independently between appointments.

No.

Some injuries may improve with appropriate advice, activity modification and self-management.

If we don’t believe ongoing physiotherapy is necessary, we’ll tell you.

If further treatment or rehabilitation is appropriate, we can arrange a more detailed physiotherapy appointment and build a plan around your recovery.

Sometimes.

It depends on the injury and the type of activity.

You may be able to continue some training while temporarily modifying other movements or loads.

Yes.

If your injury needs longer-term rehabilitation or a structured route back to sport, you can progress into our Sports Injury Physiotherapy service.

Comfortable sports clothing is ideal because it allows your clinician to assess the injured area and relevant movement.

In most cases, you can book a private injury assessment directly.

If you’re using medical insurance, check whether your provider requires a referral or authorisation.
