Day and night blinds — sometimes called zebra blinds — are made from alternating bands of sheer and solid fabric. By adjusting the position of the blind, you align the sheer bands for diffused natural light, the solid bands for full privacy, or a combination of the two for somewhere in between. The result is a blind that stays in the window at all times but gives you a much wider range of light settings than a standard roller.
In the morning, you can fill the room with soft, diffused light through the sheer panels without the brightness of a completely open window. In the evening, you can shift the solid panels to face outward for complete privacy from the street — without raising the blind or compromising the coverage. It’s this flexibility across the day that makes them particularly popular in living rooms and bedrooms.
The clean, contemporary design of day and night blinds also suits modern interiors well. The horizontal banded pattern when the sheer sections are open creates a layered, graphic quality that a plain roller doesn’t have. John brings samples to your home so you can see the full effect in your own room.

Day and night blinds have alternating sheer and solid horizontal bands. You adjust the blind’s position to align whichever type of band you want facing outward — sheer for soft light, solid for privacy, or a mix of both. John will demonstrate how they work with a sample at the consultation.
They’re similar in principle — both use alternating sheer and solid sections. There are differences in how the fabric is constructed and how the transition between positions feels. John will show you both at the consultation so you can see which suits your room better.
No — day and night blinds are not a blackout product. The solid panels provide strong privacy but some light will still filter through. For bedrooms where full blackout is needed, see our blackout blinds page.
Made-to-measure day and night blinds are typically 3 weeks or more from consultation. Nicky will confirm the current lead time when you get in touch.
